"let me have the last word!!!"

One of two Kodak film tins found today at the PCC Flea Market for $1!

"The Hollow Earth" by Raymond Bernard, which I got more for the graphic quality of the front & insides, rather than for its content (though it's kind of fascinating, flipping through and looking into the belief and 'evidence' of the Hollow Earth Theory...).

Test shot of an assortment of vintage canning jars given to me by A. I realized that the wider the angle I use, the more vignetting occurs...

Today was a hectic flurry of a day, which was a little unexpected, but it was busily productive so I'm not complaining. After traversing the flea market with sister and mom, I went around the town I grew up in for ten years, shooting pictures of a bunch of locations to build up a reference library for a project that needs to get underway soon. One of the locations to visit on my list was the Huntington Library, and it turns out that a family friend of ours was given some kind of super-membership that extends to additional friends, so as an on-again off-again member, I'm a member for another year again - hooray! I got re-registered, and walked around the gardens and buildings - admiring flowers, and soaking in the heat of the afternoon. Before I left, I stole away to the Desert Garden to walk amongst the cacti and succulents, where I simultaneously felt inspired by the beautiful growths while envying the variety. I got through most of the locations, but as that wound down I decided I had no energy left for SuperBowl festivities, so the rest of the afternoon was spent cleaning and rearranging items in the house. I can confidently say that I'll sleep well tonight. It's already next week!

I liked how this fallen barrel cactus had a blanket/tarp nestled underneath it, as if for support/warmth(???)/protection. I'll gladly (stupidly) cuddle you, cactus!

organization/inspiration

1. Flea market finds from GCC. The highlight/downfall of no longer having to work on Sunday mornings.
2. A little project I finally got to complete for a pen pal, whew. Sometimes I wish inspiration/my motivation wasn't so fickle.

I like pretty old things (but who doesn't?!) and nowadays I gravitate toward pretty old useful things. The textbook is probably not-so-useful to me, but reminded me of a certain someone. The drawings were included with a mix-tape (mix-cd...) for an awesome friend who I hope to meet for real, in person, in the near future with my sister. Someday! It makes me happy to be able to connect to and cultivate friendships with people, whether in face-to-face interactions or through the Internet. And then the excitement of new friends will remind me of the old friends, and just rolls me through the cycle of catching up with said seasoned friendships. Mind you this isn't a cut-and-dry formula - just thoughts of the moment. I'm really trying for consistency though.

the santa monica flea market

Went to the Santa Monica flea with my sister and her boyfriend, my mom, and my boyfriend. We didn't see much to buy but we brought our dogs! And I scored a sweet table for my kitchen this fall for thirty bucks. So even though it was a little disappointing overall, it wasn't a complete disappointment.

while you were out...

A few things I would have liked to spot with you next to me:

1. Armadillo leather purse. Mom kept going "Omg. is that real?" Me: "Yes it's a real armadillo. I've seen purses made from cane toads." "OMG, really??" hahahaha.
2. Black & White. Scottie + Westie statue! Not the greatest condition, but look at how cheerful it is!
3. Cairn Terrier! A vendor got up to take this poopie to potty and when she came back Ma asked if it was a Westie or a Cairn. Doesn't it look like a browner BB?!

what did we find?

Dan and I weren't looking for anything in particular, really. Dan got a sweet haul of vintage pins for himself and friends and I just looked at cute things like the trio of brass quails, until I found the perfect warm, woolen mustard-colored scarf for $6 and the black leather motorcycle jacket of my dreams. After that wiped out my pockets, we followed our noses (actually just wandered around) to the tamales table and had a most delicious and rewarding snack. Going to the PCC Flea is the best way to start the month. I know I say things like that a lot, but I always mean it, especially in this case!
