Closer (2004)

Closer is a film that's a punch in the gut because it gives you that inevitable sinking-feeling in your stomach as it shows you the dark and twisted ways relationships can go. I thought I would hate this movie with all of its melodrama but the twists and turns are exciting in a schadenfreude kind of way, and each character shows some form of complexity. It's a story of a hopeless romantic/failed writer who doesn't believe in ONE love at first sight, a beautiful photographer who can't make up her mind, a successful dermatologist with a caveman sensibility, and a mysterious, enigmatic stripper who isn't all she seems or says to be. People are manipulative, cold, and twisted, but they also just want to love, to be loved, and to be forgiven. What a fucking trip. Romantic dramas, not comedies, please. The latter are all (fun) lies!

if romcoms are lies, romdramas are gross exaggerations. - t

romantic dramas are slightly more tolerable for me
